Catholics Come Home team presents in Australia!

CatholicsComeHome.org News:

This week our founder and president, Tom Peterson, and Communications Manager, Katie Peterson, are in Australia presenting the Catholics Come Home program!

Here’s a bit of what’s on the agenda this week-
Monday, Dec 14:
Dinner with Cardinal Pell, Archdiocese of Sydney.  He was host of World Youth Day 2008. (Cardinal Pell previously invited Mr. Peterson to present the keynote address in Sydney at the National Communications Conference, and Bishops’ Plenary meeting of 44 bishops in May 2009).

Tues-Friday:
Catholics Come Home Evangelization planning session, sponsored by Archdiocese of Melbourne and the National Office for Evangelisation …an office of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. Will be discussing ways to localize and implement CCH ads and website to invite inactive Catholics and others in Australia to come home to the Catholic faith.

We’ll keep you posted if CCH end up going ‘down under’ at a future date! (perhaps in Melbourne in Lent 2011).  Thanks for keeping CatholicsComeHome.org in your prayers.

Remember, you are always invited to visit www.CatholicsComeHome.org to grow deeper in your faith each day!

Bored at Mass?

Feeling “Bored at Mass?”

Many Catholics haven’t had the opportunity to really learn what’s happening at Mass… By journeying through understanding the parts of the Mass, you will find new excitement in this joyful and meaningful celebration of our Faith every Sunday (or every day)!

Today’s Bored at Mass feature: Where did the Mass come from?

The Mass finds its origins 2,000 years ago, at the Last Supper, when Jesus and His disciples celebrated the Passover meal. “Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body…’” (see Matthew 26:26-28). Jesus reminded the disciples, “Do this in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11: 24, 25). Jesus’ followers then began to celebrate the sacrifice of the Mass, culminating in the Holy Eucharist as Jesus instructed them to do…and the celebration has continued to this day in the Catholic Church.

Read what some of the Early Church Fathers had to say about the Mass.

Catholics Come Home Lost & Found Tip: Next time you go to Mass, remember where it all started—with Jesus, 2,000 years ago. Take time to realize how amazing it is to be able to participate in the sacrificial meal and heavenly banquet…Jesus saves a seat just for you!

An Inspirational E-mail we received here at CatholicsComeHome.org!

An inspirational e-mail message we received here at CCH – hope you are inspired by it as well:

“Dear Tom Peterson and Staff,

I had seven (7) Catholic friends that went astray that returned to the faith since I shared the website with them. Two had divorces pending when I gave them the website and both ended up canceling their divorces, renewing their matrimonial vows and now are very active in their respective parishes.

God bless you and the staff and all your families.

Love In Christ Jesus,
B”

Catholics Come Home "water-cooler-worthy" Advent thought

Enjoy this Catholic, “water-cooler-worthy” reflection on Advent:

WARNING: ADVENT VIRUS

Be on the alert for symptoms of inner Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to this virus and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world.

Some signs and symptoms of The Advent Virus:
• A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences.
• An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
• A loss of interest in judging other people.
• A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
• A loss of interest in conflict.
• A loss of the ability to worry.  (This is a very serious symptom)
• Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
• Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
• Frequent attacks of smiling.
• An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.
• An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

You are always welcome and encouraged to visit www.CatholicsComeHome.org to grow in your faith each day!

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Today marks the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the celebration of Mary being freed from original sin. But where do Catholics get this teaching of the Immaculate Conception? Is it biblical? Absolutely.

Check out this great article by Fr. William Saunders about the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary: http://catholiceducation.org/articles/religion/re0774.html

“The ‘splendor of an entirely unique holiness’ by which Mary is ‘enriched from the first instant of her conception’ comes wholly from Christ: she is ‘redeemed, in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son’. The Father blessed Mary more than any other created person ‘in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places’ and chose her ‘in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love’.” (CCC 492)
